It is nearly impossible to find a great, professional network cabling or low-voltage, communication cabling installer service company in New York area. We tried. We occasionally needed cabling replaced or a new data cable install. The listed contractors were either unreliable, not very knowledgeable (offering us low-grade outdated standards,) or inexperienced in IT communication data cable signaling (building service contractors, electricians.) Therefore, we decided to offer this extremely important data network cabling service, which is oftentimes ignored by other data communication or technology consultants.

Symptoms or Problems

Bad, outdated, overloaded, improperly installed or damaged data cables are slow for transfer speeds. They are the cause of data packet collisions, switch/router signal problems, inadequate power to PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) devices, intermittent links or just failed connections. Yes, maybe your devices and computers are reporting a network data link, but how many times did that switch or router have to “re-try/re-send” that packet of data? Consumer gear does not report this important statistic. Did your previous consultant not see the power wire running alongside your data cable in the basement? This is where the magnetic current is introduced into the communication-data wire and therefore, interfering with the network signal.

Upgrade the Wiring: The Low Tech Solution

We have solved many IT problems by simply replacing some wiring. Meanwhile, IT consultants could, and have spent hours tracing, replacing and recommending high tech solutions to this low-tech problem.

First, our recommendation is always to begin a project by replacing as much wiring as possible throughout the client premises. This is equivalent to repaving and expanding roadways, tunnels and bridges of the highway.

With the cabling replaced, many networks will report much faster browsing connection experience. Database access problems that plagued the office for years fantastically resolve. Weird or intermittent ghosts of problems chased by previous consultants disappear. Print, scan or other peripheral gear finally work as intended. Even Wireless connections seems faster, and video streaming and chatting becomes High-Definition! At this point, we can eliminate network cabling as a problem, and – confidently declare this new data cabling to be adequate for at least the next decade – whatever equipment connected.

Removing Barriers, Expanding Capacity

Step two and three is upgrading the switching and routing gear that connects all the cabling. Likewise, it too is usually outdated and worn. This step is like expanding and lengthening access ramps, on-ramps and off-ramps. Upgrading the routing equipment which manages data traffic is the last and most complicated step. However, oftentimes it is a reason for the network bottle-necks. This is equivalent to removing the toll booths from the highway system. But, more on that later.
